News & Barney Magroo’s !

Hey Lovely Peoples!

I trust you’re all doing well and enjoying the move into Autumn, as dissapointing as the weather was this summer the general feeling was just amazing as London embraced the Olympics and our Summer Festival went (quite literally!) with a swing (dancer)! Personally WH HQ is enjoying watching the lovely orange and reds grace our trees, the city seem a little sleepier and the air feeling a little fresher. We’re thinking hot tea and slipping on those favourite snuggly jumpers, nippy noses and any excuse to hold hands or have more hugs!

So lots has been going on with WH recently. Our move to Tooting Tram and Social is still proving very exciting to us as the wonderful people there have really welcomed us and are so open to any creativity we could possibly think of, its totally refreshing! Some people have asked us and expressed a little frown as to why we have taken the step to move further out of central London so I just wanted to clarify that in short, the venue is fantastic, the response has been amazing and there really is nothing like what we hope to be doing in the area, so, so far, those are the factors that are in our favour and I think they’re darn good ones! We obviously want to do our upmost to make every event as successful as possible for you, to help promote you and your work and the gorgeous people at the Tram, in their wonderfulness, are set in their partnership with us to help us do that by flyering the tube in the evening, each week, spreading the WH word (and naming cocktails after me, uh hum!!). So, all good there and I have to say that we are COMPLETELY looking forward to every event we have planned for the rest of this year with these good people!

As you may or may not know via our Facebook page, we were approached by Old Spitalfields Market to partner with them and create a space, within their market, on a Saturday. Unfortunately, as grateful as we are for the opportunity, we have decided (along with the help from some of you) that this is not for us at this time. WH was set up as an alternative to the larger markets because it can just be so expensive starting out or trying to promote yourself (I started out selling on the Sunday Upmarket myself) so we aim to offer a more affordable alternative. It just seemed a little wrong to go the other way and into charging more, which in the current climate is difficult. One thing I am interested in though is your opinions, so do let me know what you think, whether you would like to do it but share spaces, whether you would be interested in doing Saturdays there or Sundays or have a deal for doing both maybe as we are still very open to doing the best we can for everyone involved in WH.

Moving forward, our next event is a ‘Tea Party with a twist’ on Saturday 29th + Sunday 30th September, we have a lovely amount of vintage in ‘Alices closet’ planned for Sunday, some really blooming great entertainment planned for both days, varied traders, wonderful handcrafted teas, cake, savoury foods, cut price cocktails and different traders both days and we hope to pull a great crowd for it all. Please do pass on the word or just the amazing image by the wonderful Jo from Deer Little Forest – this flyer needs to be seen, it is, quite frankly, beautiful! Anyone wishing to use the flyer on your facebook, blog or website, you can find it on the WH website on the Directory page.

If you would like to take part in any upcoming events please do email us for a booking form asap – dates are – October 28th (Monster Mash Halloween theme – we will be working with the Stitch Clinic making body parts in our workshop!), November 17th and December 1st + 2nd (Christmas!). THE CLOSING DATE TO TAKE PART IN THE CHRISTMAS EVENTS IS NOW OCTOBER 15th. We havent, as such, had a closing date before now, however, with so much going on we just want to make sure we’re all organised and can get onto planning other things to make the event more fun and memorable for you as well as the grand ole time of things we’re thinking of for Spring! Any queries or if you’re a few days late, we will obviously do what we can for you, but to help our admin, we’d be really grateful if you could get in touch asap.

MORE NEWS COMING VERY SOON!! We have other pots on the stove just waiting to boil (for 2012 AND 2013) so we’ll be in touch soon with more details that are making us just bubble up under the surface with squee’s currently!

Dont forget, we were set up as a platform for local designer makers, crafters and artists to have a warm and friendly environment to showcase and sell their wares and do ask that everything is handmade in the UK. Due to our ethical standpoint we also include vintage and upcycled items. So please help support handmade and ethical items and enjoy our alternative to high street shopping, all created with care, just for you!

An exciting new start.

Hey there peeps!

A really big THANK YOU! goes out to everybody who came, stopped, shopped, danced, ate, drank, made and created and traded with us last Sunday, it was such a brilliant day, with a really great footfall and shared smiles in abundance. We completely enjoyed your company and hope that you enjoyed the 50′s swing flash mob, skiffle band and other live music. We cant thank you enough for your kind words following the events also and have to admit, it was so sweet we were quite bowled over!

After a really wonder-packed day on Sunday, and such great local support in the lead up to the event, we are extremely pleased to announce that Wonder Hill Market will be moving to Tooting Tram and Social. This for us signifies a big change and a movement in direction and what we hope to bring to you, as visitors and traders, on our event days as we plan to theme each date that we bring you to appeal to a wider audience. We’re really hoping that this will bring some new faces through the doors to share smiles and further spread the word about the talent on show and for sale. As always, our events are designed for you, so again if there is anything you would like to see or have us do, we would love to hear from you.

If you would like to take part in any upcoming events please do email us for a booking form asap as interest has already started flowing and we’ve not even sent this announcing our new dates yet!! However, here they are – September 29th + 30th (Carnival and Tea Party themes), October 28th (Monster Mash Halloween theme – thanks Tina), November 17th (we’re not settled on a theme for this date yet! – any ideas?) and December 1st + 2nd (Christmas!).

Big grins and sparkly things,

Wond-awe-filled.

I have to admit that I have never experienced such overwhelming support as we have done for our coming event this Sunday and I just want to say THANK YOU!! to everyone involved!

Today I received the Wandsworth Council Arts Team newsletter that goes out to around 2-3,000 people and our gorgeous flyer is neatly pasted on it with some information, which just fills me with smiles!

‘Tooting Online’ have also kindly popped something in their forum about our event and listed it on their calendar, as have ‘Balham.com’ and ‘Tooting Town Life’.

I can’t tell you the amount of smiling faces that have taken our flyers around the Tooting and Balham area. Tooting Tram and Social have even helped by flyering the tube every Thursday and Friday evenings for the last 3 weeks and have said that response has been good. Asking people to take flyers is usually such a daunting task, but not in this community! Its been a pleasure to meet so many supportive people who want to help get the word out about the talented people that live and work in the area.

We have also managed to get wonderful listings from many other lovely places like ‘London Pop-Up’s’ and ‘From Britain with Love’ and ‘Time Out’.

And this is just scratching the surface. So thank you, its humbling to get so much response for our first event in Tooting and something Ive only dreamt of getting in the nearly 2 years Ive been organising WH events. Only a few days to go until the event and WH HQ are busy putting finishing touches to the table plans, the signs and the surprise we have planned for both the traders and people coming to visit us.

We will have our vintage tea parlour, savoury and hot food, vintage hair and make up artist, mini massages, we’re offering cut price WH special cocktails, we have 2 AMAZING live musical acts, and a whole wealth of London and local SW handmade talent in the form of clothing, accessories, gifts, cards, artwork, homewares, vintage clothing and curiosities. We are also in great company as Crafty Pint (Handmade in Tooting) are joining us and putting on a lovely craft workshop. We will have a seating area for people that would like to stay to eat and drink and enjoy the atmosphere and entertainment!

So please, do tell everyone you know, lets have a last push! The people trading on Sunday are a group of really talented people whose work deserves to be seen and celebrated. We only hope we have done enough to help you enjoy yourselves and the day. Oh and there will  be gold medals for best dressed attending and best dressed stall too so pop your glad rags and dancing shoes on!

This Sunday, August 5th, Tooting Tram and Social Club, 12-5pm, free entry and dont forget – we have a surprise for all – sometime in the afternoon so do come along and stay a while! I for one doubt I will be sleeping much the night before – Im so excited I cant wait!

Much love xx

WH on Tour!

Hey guys

We hope you’re doing really well and managing to keep chipper even with
all of this wet weather. We’re hoping this means we’re in for a late
and long summer though, fingers crossed!

Ok so our news!

We are really happy to announce that we will be doing an event at
Tooting Tram and Social on August 5th (Sunday). After asking peoples
opinions via our FB page and having so many requests to hold an event
further South, we fixed a date with the lovely people at Tooting
Tram and Social club. If you’ve never seen this venue before, check it
out, its such a wonderful space with a really relaxed vibe which we’re
hoping to fill with beauty, creativity, handmades, vintage, smiles,
cake, music and laughter on our visit there.

If you would like to take part, please do get in touch asap, spaces are

their friends, please do let us know. Its a new area for us and we just
want to make it as successful as possible for all of our traders and
visitors.

Going back to our Facebook page, we’ve learnt recently that not
everyone of our fans is getting our posts or updates in their news
feed, which is pants! we often have competitions and offers for you so
please, go to our FB page (www.facebook.com/wonderhillhigh) hover
your cursor over the like button, and tick ‘show in news feed’ – we
want you involved and love hearing your opinions on things…

…Speaking of which, if you would like WH to visit the area you live
in, or can think of a lovely new venue which may work well, let us

place for everyone involved and like to keep things fresh for everyone
so know that we’re totally open to suggestion!

Dont forget, we were set up as a platform for local designer makers,
crafters and artists to have a warm and friendly environment to
showcase and sell their wares and do ask that everything is handmade in
the UK. Due to our ethical standpoint we als include vintage and
upcycled items. So please help support handmade and ethical items and
enjoy our alternative to high street shopping, all created with care,
just for you!

Traders please note that if you would like to book for June and July at
The Miller we would like to offer you a lovely discount, just because
we understand how hard the market place is and has been recently and
we’d like to try to help where we can.

On a last note we want to thank you, for continuing to put your trust

WH flying the flag for Ethical Shopping

Hey there lovely peeps!

Big news in the WH camp as we have a bit of a re-shuffle to make things work better in house and also, hopefully for you too!

We have recently set up a big sister company, Atelier Y Events, who are going to be organising Wonder Hill Market from now on. This means no big changes to you guys or market days, however, in house it means that we will gain the freedom to use another name to co-ordinate and style other events such as weddings, corporate and private parties. We are currently working on our website, however we do have a holding page up if anyone is interested in reading a little more (www.atelier-y.co.uk/events). We would obviously like to include you (and your wealth of talent!) in our venture too so, we’ve decided to put together a list of traders that we will offer to potential clients to choose and use when styling their event. If you would like to be included on this list, and in an exclusive client side of Atelier Y’s website, please do get in touch. We are hoping that this will bring more exposure, more business and more success to everyone involved.

Atelier Y is currently working with a few traders to assist with styling and creating a brand image that will, hopefully prove to be more profitable and eye catching to the general public. We all need our work to stand out considering the market place has taken quite a hit recently and given the talent that we see come through the doors of WH events, we enjoy nothing more than offering our experience in visual display, colour psychology, photographic styling and a nearly a decades experience working in sales, to help in making things happen for you. If this is something you may be interested in, again please do get in touch.

But enough about us!! Lets talk about the bigger picture (thats quite a big picture right?!)

You may or may not be aware that WH was set up to provide a platform for local designer makers to showcase and sell their work in a friendly and open environment. We have also always been great supporters of ethical shopping which is why we first decided to include vintage along with our handmade and upcycled range. Also why we only showcase traders who create items handmade in the UK, taking out the equation of forced labour and international transport costs to bring great product to our high streets. However we think this deserves a bit more of a push. We are (as you may be able to tell by now!) busily beavering away to get as much publicity as possible, listings, support, articles written and people talking and would really really appreciate your support in doing so also. If there is anyway you could post on your facebook page, tweet about our plight to offer an alternative to high street shopping in an ethical way, blog, speak to your friends about us, create online listings of your own just generally help out in any way we would really appreciate it. As we said earlier, we are aware that there has been a drop in the market place in general, on the high street as well as in markets and we are doing our upmost to bring more attention to our events and to your work as we can. If you would like an e-flyer or image, or button to use on your site or blog please get in touch.

We’re extremely proud that WH has become a community and market days only prove that with everyone pitching in to help each other, welcoming new traders into the family, making the most of meeting each other and exchanging tips and tricks. We’ll obviously continue to do our upmost, but if you can please help in creating a buzz too, we’re sure to see more successes for your outstanding talents really soon.

Any questions or queries please do let us know, as always, each event is created for you, so if theres anything we can do to help things along we’d be really happy to hear from you.

Big grins,

New Year, New-s-letter, New Blog! x

Hey there all and a very happy, healthy and wonder-fulled New Year to you all!!

Just a note to let you all know what we have on the calendar so far this year, yes, we’re filling up fast and keeping busy already after a lovely, much needed festive break following such a busy December, taking it easier this year? hmm…!

Anyhow, we have been delighted with the amount of applications and the talent that you guys have shown us in entry for our POP-UP Valentines market on February 12th at Keston Lodge, Islington and would like to buy so much of your hard work for ourselves! We are now full for this event. However, due to the high demand, and the scrummy people over at Keston Lodge, we have two extra dates scheduled in addition, woo hoo!! These are Sundays March 11th and April 15th. We are now taking applications for these dates, the artwork has been done and it will be available to download from the directory part of our website over the next few days, along with the regular artwork for the London Bridge events.

At the end of February we return to our home at The Miller, in London Bridge on Saturday February 25th, then rolling every last Saturday of each month. We are filling up fast so if you would like to take part, please do get in touch asap. We sincerely cant wait to see you all again after the break and Di (Di Does Vintage) you were right, it really does feel like going home at the end of the month, and we’re looking forward to it with refreshed excitement!

We are also extremely happy to announce that we now have some PR help, and want to thank in advance our lovely guru Dan from Full Fat for taking care of us. Please do help him / us along by inviting everyone you know along to our Facebook events and spreading the word, we’ll be eternally grateful and smother you in hugs!

Any questions or queries please do let us know, each event is for you, so if theres anything we can do to help things along we’d be really happy to hear from you.

Big grins,
